15th Anniversary Gala Day
On Friday 3rd August we held our annual gala day in the Glenburn Centre and Park and had yet another excellent time.

As the gala day was in our 15th anniversary year it was marked by a special competition with three members of the community getting a birds eye view of the gala day by flying over in a helicopter and then getting a tour of Glasgow.

Congratulations to the following:

  • Kayleigh Kenna - 12 and under - Coloured in a picture of a rocket.
  • Courtney Mitchell - 13's to 21 - Designed a Tee shirt.
  • Marie Claire Davidson - over 21 - Submitted an old picture of Easthall.

Our thanks go to all the parties that were involved in helping us celebrate the day and most of all to the tenants and children for turning out at this event.

A special DVD was made of the helicopter tour that flew over the Gala day, Glasgow and surrounding areas. A copy can be obtained from the office and is on display at the Glenburn Centre.

Changing Glenburn Park
This project has seen members from all ages work with our artist in residence Karla Black and the Easterhouse arts project to look at developing a piece of public art and what changes can be made to the park.

This programme has involved both workshop and consultation and has involved the following:

  • Boys Animation Workshop
  • Girls Film/Costume Workshops
  • Youth Group
  • Child Care Works Creative Training
  • Costume Making for Easterhouse Gala
  • Glenburn Rocket
  • Free Day Trips to gardens in Scotland
  • Lunch Club and Centre Users

At the AGM an overview of how the project was developing was presented and work has now begun on changing the Park.

The Glenburn Café
A grant has been awarded to the Residents Association to allow them to develop the Glenburn Café and this has resulted in two new members of staff along with a few changes to the café.

The café will be changing to provide a more varied menu so why not come along and see what it has to offer. It is open to members of the public 5 days per week from 10.00am - 3.00pm Monday to Friday

Not only is the café open to members of the public but it will also be delivering catering to outside venues and companies.

If you have a special event and want catering then call the Café on 0141 781 2277 and ask to speak to Douglas the new marketing officer.

It is hoped that as business increases additional catering jobs will be created for members of the community.

Feasibility Study HNC Community Development & Housing
The Co-operative is working with John Wheatley College on a feasibility study to look at creating a brand new qualification on Community Development & Housing.

This new qualification will be an ideal opportunity to allow people to progress to full time employment with Housing or Community Development organisations.

Further details of how the project is developing will be outlined in our website and we will inform you how you can apply for a place once the details are completed.

If you think you would be interested in this after it is developed then give John a call at the office.

Youth Group
Remember the Centre is open to all young people of secondary school age on Wednesday evenings. A pool and table tennis competition is also held on Tuesday evenings and every Thursday we have the Gladiators at the Centre for the younger children.

Football Teams
We are proud to announce that for another year we are supporting our local teams (Easthall) and along with our subsidiary Moriehall have provided sponsorship and funding to allow the teams to continue.

Our thanks go to Libbie Brown and Andy Gilbert who manage the teams along with a number of other volunteers who support them.
