Easthall goes "Green"

Easthall goes "Green"

The Co-operative has installed 2 Wind Turbines in Glenburn Park that will provide renewable electricity for the Glenburn Centre.

2 Wind Turbines in Glenburn Park

These turbines cost £58,000 and the Co-operative received 100% funding. The turbines will reduce the cost of electricity to the centre by creating an estimated 20,000 kw per year, in effect reducing overall consumption by 40%.

This project is the first of its kind in the Easterhouse area and may even be the first in Glasgow.

The Co-operative has carried out an energy audit of the Glenburn Centre and there are further plans to make the centre "green".

Our thanks go to the following who funded this project:

  • Lighthouse - Sust
  • GHA Wider Action
  • Energy Savings Trust
  • Community Planning
  • Communities Scotland
  • Glasgow City Council

Easthall Park Newbuild on Site
The Co-operative is now on site with our first phase of new homes in the Kildermorie area. Seventy-six new homes are to be built as part of this first phase and a bid for a further seventy homes as part of the second phase has now been submitted.

Rachael McCann received an MBE for her work

Rachael McCann Retires
Rachael McCann retired from the Committee of the Co-operative and she will be sadly missed.

Rachael is the last of the original committee members who joined the Co-operative a few years before we took our first properties from Glasgow City Council.

As a member of the original steering group Rachel was instrumental in the establishment of the Co-operative and even received an MBE for her work.

The Co-operative wishes to express our heartfelt thanks and appreciation for all her work over the years.

Although Rachael will be missed by our organisation she will not be a stranger to the Glenburn Centre, as she will be continuing her work as the Chairperson of Easthall Residents Association.

Niall Gordon Core Services Manager Resigns
Another change for the Co-operative is that the Core Services Manager Niall Gordon is leaving at the end of March 2008 after some six years in this post. Niall is moving to become a Director in a Housing Association in the Royston area of Glasgow and we wish him all the best in his new job.

HNC Working with Communities/Housing
The Co-operative has been working on a feasibility study to develop a HNC qualification on working with communities and housing and is now looking for delegates to participate in this course.

It is envisaged that there will be a preparatory course prior to the HNC beginning in August. This preparatory course should be held in April - June 2008.

Funding will now be sought to cover the costs of the HNC course and it is assumed that a £200 allowance will be paid each week whilst the candidates carry out the course and the work placements in Housing Co-operatives and Associations in and around the East End of Glasgow.

If you would like to be considered for this HNC course or the preparatory course then please call John McMorrow at the office or email john@easthallpark.org.uk

Our Performance
The Co-operative have issued to every member of the community a performance summary for the period April to December 2007 along with our annual report.

A copy of this summary is available for download.

If you have any comments or suggestions on anything regarding your community and our work then please contact the office either in person or you can make comments or suggestions via the website.
