Environmental Improvements
We have appointed a new contractor, (Castle Contracts), to carry out the close cleaning and maintenance of common areas starting in April.
This work will entail litter cleaning twice per week, removing of weeds and moss from driveways and parking bays twice per year, bin collections for tenemental properties every week, 14 grass cuts per year in common areas and for those on our garden maintenance list, common hedges cut three times per year and shrubbed areas maintained three time per year.
All closes will be cleaned on weekly basis and the contractor will record when visit are made and how long the clean took. The contractor is expected to shake and remove soil from doormats, stairs and landings are to be mopped, ledges to be wiped clean and on a monthly basis all windows and close tiles will be cleaned.
We hope that the new service meets with your approval and we will be monitoring very closely how the contractor is performing and you can assist us by informing us if there are any issues.
We anticipate that there will be teething problems but let us know how you feel about the service so we can closely monitor the work.
We will be issuing every tenant with a booklet outlining the services we carry out. If you have any views on the service whether good or bad please let us know.
Environmental Project
In partnership with Moriehall Housing Association, work will soon begin on looking at what improvements can be made to the environment and how play facilities can be introduced in the Kildermorie area.
We are looking for willing volunteers to give us their initial views on what they would like to see happening, therefore if you are interested please call the office and ask for Janice. Please note Janice is available in the office on Tuesday - Thursday and can be contacted on the usual number 0141 781 2277.
As plans develop we will hold either an open day or present these at our public meetings.
Youth Worker Training
Congratulations to the 12 local people who are undertaking their SVQ level 2 in Community Development in the Glenburn Centre.
This training project, developed in partnership, is a 26 week course that is designed to allow the students to achieve not only the above qualification but look at ways in which people can get back into work particularly in the role of youth workers.
The students receive training and are also put into a placement at a community facility or project and receive a training allowance of £70 per week.
It is hoped that this will not be the last of its kind developed in the Centre and if you are interested in future opportunities please contact Lynette at the Glenburn Centre.
Kimberley Johnstone
Congratulations to Kimberley Johnstone from Easthall on her achievements in the field of Karate.
Kimberley, (aged 11), trains at Eastbank, Tollcross and Ibrox Marine´s Barracks and is coached by Gerry Fleming on the National Squad Training.
In 2008 she won the East Calder Junior Champion, Wishaw Grand Pri Scottish Open, Scottish Champion at Meadowbank Stadium.
In 2009 she brought home silver in the AMA International Open and won the gold in the Grangemouth Championship.
She will be participating in the Scottish International Open, the British Championship and the Irish Open this year.
We wish you all the best this year in your Karate competitions and we are sure you will all agree that it is always nice to hear what achievements our young people can make and we are confident that we will be hearing much more about Kimberley in the years to come.
